The Eau Claire Horseshoe Club

Host of the 2012 State Horseshoe Tournament

Return

The Eau Claire Horseshoe Club has been selected to host the Wisconsin State Horseshoe Tournament in 2012. The tournament will be held Labor Day weekend 2012 at the Carson Park courts.

So why is it important for area residents who are interested in participating in this tournament to have this information at this early time? In order to qualify to enter this tournament a person must meet certain requirements. To enter, a person must be a National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) member at the time of the tournament and have participated in 3 NHPA sanctioned tournaments in WI during the period Aug. 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012. Being a member of an NHPA sanctioned league may be substituted for one of the 3 tournaments.

Eau Claire Horseshoe Club is a sanctioned club, so participating as a member in league play in 2011 would meet one of the required 3 events mentioned above. Club members play one night a week at Carson Park from May 1 to late July. The club also holds three sanctioned tournaments each year in early May, early June, and in August. There are also other sanctioned tournaments held in various cities throughout the state during the year.

Entrants to the WI State Horseshoe Tournament are placed in one of the following categories:

Men (pitch from 40’)
Women (pitch from 30’)
Elders--men age 70 and older (pitch from 30’)
Junior Boys--ages 10-17 (pitch from 30’)
Junior Girls--ages 10-17 (pitch from 30’)
Boys Cadet--ages 9 and under (pitch from 20’)
Girls Cadet--ages 9 and under (pitch from 20’)

In each category entrants are placed in a class (group) with others of similar ability—close to the same ringer %. This allows all participants to be competitive within their class. The State Tournament gives everyone a chance to meet and compete against horseshoe pitchers from across the state.

The Eau Claire Horseshoe Club is inviting anyone interested in horseshoes to become a new member and join us for a summer of fun, exercise and camaraderie, and an opportunity to participate in the WI State Tournament in 2012. Current club members will be happy to provide you with additional information, instructions, and answer any questions you may have. No prior experience is necessary. The annual fee is only $28.00 for both the NHPA and Eau Claire club memberships. The deadline for membership is April 9, but you are encouraged to contact us early so we can place you in a league and on a team.
